One of our favorite smells, ingredients, things, is lavender. It's also in our most popular fragrance: Call Me in the Morning, which combines lavender with lemon and peppermint for a soothing, cooling, relaxing experience.
We do our best to raise our lavender, but given the large quantity we go through, we do have to supplement some through our wholesale supplier, New Directions. What we raise, we do so in our flower beds at our homes (and our mother's homes!). This really is a family-supported business and everyone is working for the success of the company!
The harvesting process is fairly simple: Pick some flowers. Our kids even help with this task, and bunching them. We tie them together in small bunches and hang them to dry. Once dried, the lavender buds easily fall off and we go forth.
We utilize the lavender buds both as decoration (on top of the bath fizzies!), but also for infusions. Infusing lavender into oils is one way our products are a little bit different from others. Yes, we add lavender essential oils, but for sensitive skin we have products that simply rely on infusions. It's not quite as strong as an essential oil, but still provides the soothing and relaxing qualities for which lavender is famous.
"The Narwhal and the Manatee did a workshop for a bachelorette party I attended and it was FABULOUS! I had a great time, it didn't break the bank, and I love the products we made. I love that the ingredients are fairtrade and natural. I highly recommend them for parties/workshops or just shopping!" - Kristine
