These little scoops of deliciousness are one of the things I'm really proud to have put together to add to our list of offerings. They are, for simplicity's sake, in shower exfoliating lotions. They have been created in response to requests that we have received from family and friends regarding their skin needs.
We start out by addressing the needs of the skin directly. We were looking at creating an herbal blend for an infusion that would help with extremely dry, eczema battered skin. A little digging in our knowledge base led us to choose the items we wanted to use for this project.
For this particular blend we used comfrey, hibiscus petals, calendula petals, and chamomile flowers. Each one of these items was chosen for the healing, soothing properties they are said to have. Mango butter and cocoa butter along with heavier carrier oils, avocado oil and olive oil, are all piled into a double boiler and exposed to gentle heating. This process pulls the good stuff from the mixture of dried material into the oils and butters. We let it sit for no shorter than six hours or, if time allows, over night to make sure that the infusion is as complete as we can get it and still create a product in a relatively short amount of time.
When the infusion is ready, we push everything through a fine mesh cloth that takes all the debris out of the liquid mixture. As we approach the stage when we can start scooping out the mixture, we add the exfoliants. In this case, we used colloidal oatmeal and baking soda. Incredibly gentle and skin cleansing at the same time. We also add Lemon Essential oil to brighten the scent and the skin.
To use these magic little butter balls; take them into the shower or the tub with you, after you have washed your skin, take a little chunk of the exfoliating, buttery goodness and smear it all over your body. Use as much or as little as you feel you need. When the shower is over, dry off as usual and skip the lotion. The power of these little guys to keep your skin feeling amazingly soft all day long, is pretty incredible.
At this time we have made two batches of these that we really like. We have the Lemon Oatmeal Goodness version and the Super Green version. The Super Green goes through a very similar technique for the infusion process but this time we used Jasmine Green tea and Rosemary with a fine sea salt exfoliator. The fragrance is super green...you know, like the name :)
We are excited to see what kind of variations of these we can make! What would your ideal EBB (exfoliating body butter) contain? Let us know in the comments below!
