Wow. Busy is quite the understatement this week! But we are SO excited to have our first shop day open for the public on FRIDAY! (That's only two days from now...deep breaths...).
Traci and I have been working hard creating the "lab" where we make our products. We recently relocated for more space so we can make more wonderful things! (side note: I decided to call it the "lab" because I think that sounds cool.)
In the midst of creating our lab, we've also been creating a shop! Looking for perfect pieces to put in the shop to display our goods is fun and Traci is painting everything (she loves to paint!). The store is going to be beautiful and clean and pretty and we can't wait!
I've been working on designing things like this awesome "Open" and "Closed" sign. It's the little things that make everything come together, you know?
And we've both been cranking out products like crazy people. We hope you get a chance to come to the City Exchange this weekend and see us! We are open Friday and Saturday, 11-6. Please visit!
It can happen. That moment in life where all the right components come together at exactly the right time and, all of a sudden, what you hoped could happen, planned for and dreamt of IS happening. We feel like that is the moment we are long in right now. As Megan Elizabeth said, if there's a time to do this, the time is now. She was so right.
Since I moved back to Fort Wayne in September, the main drive for the Narwhal and the Manatee has been to become a legit business and for us that meant a shop where we could create a set up that allowed us to do all the things we wanted to do. There have been a few setbacks in that plan, but each time there was a hiccup of some kind we used our grit and communication skills to figure out how to change things for the best. We have been fortunate and determined enough that our goal to have a storefront open in downtown Fort Wayne by spring of 2016 is now on the verge of becoming a reality.
Last night one of our friends said, "I'm so excited for Fort Wayne!" What a sweet thing to say! Megan Elizabeth and I have a vision of being a place that attracts more people to DTFW, along with the other unique and wonderful local businesses that are finding homes downtown. It certainly is exciting when others see this vision with us. This is such an amazing time for growth and change! We love being a part of it and look forward to seeing how things are going to develop over the coming years.
I feel we need to give a big thanks to The City Exchange for giving us a chance to be one of the businesses in the amazing space they have created. The downtown area is in need of more attractions to bring more life back to this amazing part of our city. The City Exchange is meeting that need with a thoughtful mixture of businesses all in one convenient location. Well done!
There are so many exciting things still waiting to happen, but, for now, we are immensely happy and grateful for where we are. <3 tlhk
As you've probably noticed, Traci and I love things that smell wonderful. We realize, though, that not everyone wants to commit to a certain scent all day. It got us thinking about what we could do to offer a delicious scent with or without the need to actually put it on skin.
What did we discover? Only the best thing ever: Lockets!
That's right. We found beautiful lockets and filled them with a skin-safe essential oil blend cast in beeswax and other stabilizing oils. The scents are marvelous and you can choose to just keep it in the locket for a subtle sniff, rub it onto your wrists or neck (or...you know...where ever) for a bit more, or wear the locket AND spread the scent around for an even bigger fragrant bang.
We made a small handful of these beauties and gave them to selected friends and family for Valentine's Day. First of all...everyone loves them. Second of all...everyone loves the way they smell. Third of all...everyone loves how it can be just the fragrance OR it can be a fashion statement. Or both. Brilliant! (I mean...not to brag...but...).
To top it all off, we created two signature scents for these lockets, which we decided to incorporate into our product line (more on that later!).
Scent 1: The Darker Side of Lime - black pepper, vetiver and lime.
Scent 2: Personal Holiday - ginger, clove and orange
So, what do you think? Do you like the idea? Let us know!
